Hi all,
Another great night on the beaches for our Singles Championships. This year we had 32 players try their luck and it was nice to see some old and new faces in the mix. This year we tried something a little different with the format. We had 16 A and 16 B players, luckily we had 4 boards at the Builders Club, so we were able to play 8 players on each board with each board having their own sheet. The end of the night the winner of both boards in A and B Grade came to together for the finals.

The winner for this year was last years runner up. He was not satisfied with a silver medal this man wanted GOLD, and he got it. Well done to BUTCHER MAN BRAD who did not drop a game all night and certainly got what he aimed for, the top prize. We must also congratulate our runner up SAL, who also played like a demon. Sal actually lost a game against Pitty 1’s ADRIAN but recovered and quickly took out all his other opponents. The final was magic to watch, and great darts were thrown, CONGRATULATIONS to both our winners. As in our doubles this year we also recognised third place, and this honour went to ADRIAN on board 1 and SAFFER DARRYL on board 2. Great darts played by all the A graders.

For our B Grade we congratulate, our esteemed secretary JOSH who won all his games and didn’t break a sweat. Runner Up to Josh was Pitty 1’s PETER who also did not lose a game, but when it came to the finals, we think, nerves took over and it is hard to get a double at the best of times, but with a shaking hand it is even worse. Great darts by both players. In third spot for B Grade the bronze medals went to SAM, Manly 2 and teammate for Josh, DEREK, Belrose Builders. Well done to everyone.

As we mentioned we had old faces show up and it was lovely to see ANDREW GOBSILL and NICK ABBENBROEK back in the fold. We also welcome two new faces BELINDA and PAUL, who we hope enjoyed the night so much they may even join a team. Welcome old and new to the NBD and it was lovely to see you all at the Singles.

As always we have to congratulate players for throwing outstanding darts. We will start with our winner BUTCHER MAN BRAD who in one of his games had the ultimate 180 then finished a game with a Shanghai of 20’s which was also a 19 darter. Our favourite Italian ROBERTO had not one but two 180’s while SAFFER DARRYL finished one of his games with a 113 peg, the next game had a 180 as well as finishing in just 17 darts. Andrew Gobsill had a 92 peg to win his game, leaving his opponent ‘gobsmacked’. While not playing darts for nearly 2 years Nick A had a 95 peg and finished the game in just 20 darts. Of course, we cannot finish this part without mentioning SENSEI, who by the way lost the semi-finals to SAL, but in the process managed a 104 peg. As I mentioned there were some great darts thrown throughout the night, but more than that the comradeship was fantastic. How lucky are we on the Northern Breaches to have such a great family of darties.

It would certainly be remiss of me if I did not mention the BEST RAFFLE TICKET SELLER. A big THANK YOU to RICHIE for doing such a fantastic job. He did his job effortlessly and sent everyone home with empty pockets, except the very happy winners. We thank everyone for their generosity.

Also a big shout out to the BUILDERS CLUB for always being there for the NBD and never complaining when we go a little overtime. The staff at the club are FANTASTIC and we appreciate your support.

Well, that is the end of the Winter Competition, and I am happy to announce that the new Summer Competition will start on WEDNESDAY 13TH AUGUST.

Congratulations once again to all our winners, and commiserations to those who tried their luck, but next year promises to be bigger and better. I would also like to thank everyone for making Ron and I feel so welcome and also part of the darting family, we look forward to seeing you all again in December for the AGM and Presentation night. In the meantime, remember to keep your sheets eligible and mention all the little and big things that go on in the course of the night.

So from a very wet and cold Sydney, till next time, good throwing.
Lesley
